Appeal for Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) & Food Aid

In Mahakulung, medical health workers at local health centers are facing a severe shortage of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) while treating suspected COVID-19 cases. These professionals are risking their lives daily to provide essential care amid the ongoing pandemic.

The tourism industry in the region has been devastated by the pandemic, leading to job losses for hundreds of Everest tourism porters and causing a significant food crisis for their families. With Nepal listed as a high-risk country by the World Health Organization due to rapidly spreading coronavirus cases, and with the federal government focusing primarily on urban and Terai areas, rural communities like Mahakulung are left vulnerable.

As of today, Nepal has reported 4,364 COVID-19 cases, with 674 recoveries and 15 deaths. The recent detection of a COVID-19 case at Phaplu Community Hospital, close to Mahakulung Rural Municipality, has heightened concerns and underscored the urgent need for preparedness.

Mahakulung Municipality, a remote and less developed mountainous area, was only recently connected by a bumpy motor road. Humanitarian aid is predominantly concentrated in cities with better access, leaving these mountain communities in dire need of support.

We urgently request your assistance in providing the following PPE and food items:
